How the Upends Switch works
The Switch has two parts. The battery is a slim, draw-activated stick with a USB-C port — there is no fire button, no wattage, nothing to set up. The pod attaches magnetically on top and carries both the e-liquid and the coil, so every new pod is effectively a new coil as well. When the flavour goes flat or the pod empties, you pull it off and push a fresh one on. That is the entire maintenance routine.
Because the coil is replaced along with the liquid, the Switch never develops the burnt-cotton taste that catches people out on refillable kits with a tired coil. There is also nothing to prime and no wicking wait — a new pod is ready the moment it clicks in.
Puff count, strength and draw
Standard Switch pods are rated at around 4500 puffs and filled at 50mg (5%) nicotine salt. That is a high-strength, ex-smoker-oriented liquid: satisfying on a tight mouth-to-lung draw, and deliberately not built for big, airy lung hits. Treat the 4500 figure as a lab number — in normal use a heavy vaper will get somewhere around a week from a pod, a lighter one closer to two.

What the Switch actually costs to run
The maths is the whole point of the format. A 4500 pod is R110. A comparable 4000–5000-puff disposable in South Africa generally sits between R150 and R200, and each one takes a lithium battery and a charging circuit to landfill with it. Buy the R149 battery once and every subsequent 4500 puffs costs you R110 flat — roughly a third less per puff than the disposable equivalent, with a fraction of the waste.
The other saving is quieter: you are not gambling R180 on a flavour you might hate. At R110 a pod, trying something new is cheap, and if it misses you have only lost the pod, not the device.
